Closer Look

One of the first things I did this morning was to grab some of the fiber and just feel it again.

Then I figured it was too much goodness to keep to myself. Without further ado,

this is the baby alpaca. While some of this is due to operator limitations, pictures just don't do it justice. It's very very soft. I think I'm going to spin it right from the lock, over the fold, to try to preserve some of the loft and not make a hot tight yarn. It's very clean and a little test spin went beautifully.

This is the Corriedale. It, also, spins beautifully. Just a good basic wool.

Aaaaaaah. I think I'd call this baby camel/silk colorway "Thing 2's hair," although it's even finer. But the streaks remind me of a summer blonde. Maybe that would be a better name.

This silk colorway is "Lake Berryessa." The real lake doesn't look so much like this, but maybe I'm not that familiar with it.

So that's it. Sunday morning pretties. Now I get to catch up with the work I didn't do yesterday.

ooooh - pretty! Soft! Nice stuff, good selections all round.

I read your post on the knitty board where you said that you like to knit sweaters and larger projects...

One good way to do this with your handspun is to do a multi-ply with different fibers (I have a sweater that I wear all the time that is one ply silk, alpaca, camel down, and an angora wool blend) I spun each ply very fine, and ended up with about a dk weight yarn, and enough for a long sleeved cardigan with a nice collar...

I only had about 4 ozs of three of the fibers to work with. I figured that if I ran out I could accent with an alpaca yarn that I would have had to spin up if I ran out. But it worked! :-)

I'm jealous that you got to go to Lambtown, but I really have way more than enough fiber to keep me busy probably until next year's Lambtown comes around. But still it's about the only festival close to me, and it's so nice to be able to touch before you buy!

Anyway - just thought I'd say hi, not write a book.

A hot tight yarn? That's gotta be a Freudian slip if I've ever heard one. ;)

All the fibre looks delicious. Makes me think that I should be working bettering the bond between me and my wheel again.

What lovely fiber. However the name "Lake Berryessa" is just plan bizarre. I lived on the shores of said lake for 14 months and it never looked like that! Happy spinning!

That all looks so pretty, especially the corriedale

I love the silk. How is it possible that you can buy roving that has my three favorite colors in it?

The camel/silk looks like it'll be a dream to spin. I've never spun camel... yak, but no camel. I may have to remedy that.

I look forward to seeing more of your handspun!
