Some time, money, and paint

And hey, presto, we've doubled our effective living space by finishing a third of the basement. If you don't mind the lack of heat and not-quite-finished plywood walls, it's a playroom/movie room/computer room/office to die for. And think how much cooler it will be down there in the summer than the rest of the (uninsulated) house.

The tile is there for a landing spot so maybe we can keep the mud from outside off of the carpet. We got cheap, nearly-industrial carpet from the nice carpet guys. When we told them about our children, they started using words like "sturdy," and "hides dirt well."

I'm thinking we need to hang some playground rings from the exposed floor joists, or someone is going to brachiate on the plumbing.

And you all are the BEST. Tonight I'm going to set up little nicknames for everyone so when Stupid Blogger sends me a "donotreplyBloggercomment" email, I can email back and say thank you thank you.

Tomorrow, I'm going to share one of my student's work with you. I'm completely flummoxed.

Congrats on the new room! I bet the kids LOVE tearing around in there since there isn't any furniture or anything else to get in their way.

Thing 3's sweater looks gorgeous. Why is it that only dust bunnies and mold reproduce when you aren't looking, rather than useful stuff like yarn? Maybe if you put two skeins in a darkened room with a bottle of wine and some romantic music....

Ah students. Some of them do indeed have a knack for the flummoxing. I'm sure I was never a flummoxer myself. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. :-)

P.S. my e-mail is msmorenna at the gmail domain.

Oh, I'm so envious right now! With our 4th on the way, and daycare during the day, I'm longing for a playroom/rec room (well, really, anything would do, even a padded room!). I'm sure the Things are all enjoying it immensely. :0)

Yay on the new room! I have the same type of carpet in my basement (grown up man-children and cats, instead of actual children) and it's held up well!

I like how you are blogging more often lately! It's a fun read!

There is something so cool about having someplace *else* to send the children to play. We had a playroom, for a brief moment, until my dad moved back in and now it's all a big drama thing. But someday...

Fantastic. I like the colors you painted it too. I believe our lifestyle is incompatible with carpet, although industrial might work.

That is a great space....lots or potentional for sure.

You need a wood stove in the corner. That would make is perfect cozy in the winter.

Enjoy!
