Harvest Monday?

The only harvest I got yesterday was 5" of lovely, truly spectacular, honey-colored hair.

The middle children brought head lice home from school and generously shared it with two more of us. We've been vacuuming, washing, drying, combing, and picking ever since.

So. Much. Fun.

Forgive me if I spare you pictures.

At any rate, last night we made the decision to mow Tor's head right down. He got a great baseball cap that says, "Ready to Rock" over a Jolly Roger made of electric guitars, and pranced off today as happy as a clam.

I'm still feeling weepy; I loved his hair, but I'm ready to move on.

Oh no!! We had a plague of it at school once. Someone had a sleep over and it went viral. Those are nasty buggers. I'll even go as far as to say worse than squash bugs. Yup, I said it. Worse than squash bugs.

I hope you got them all!

I'll never forget when granddaughter brought us head lice from kindergarten. We were spared, but it sure was a pain in the rear getting rid of them on her. Good luck, and at least bald is in style ;-)

When my daughter was little, she brought it home, too. Gosh...I remember washing all those sheets, towels, and clothes. It was a real drag!

Hi Michelle, and welcome. Oh no is absolutely right.

el, you are very el-oquent!

Ribbit, thanks for the affirmation. They do stink - and viral is a good metaphor.

AG, it is rotten rotten rotten. I am starting to see a tiny light at the end of the tunnel.

Jackie, thanks. We'll get there, I hope. I'm just grateful to have a washer and dryer.

Oh, dear. Lovely hair.

I can recommend tea tree oil in shampoo as a prophylactic (sp?). So far, knock wood, we have been spared despite a couple of school infestations. Or it could just be that I have anti-social children...

Good luck!

Couldn't you have the chickens to pick them off you?

Wow, sorry to hear that! Lice were unheard of when I grew up in Minnesota, must be the climate. Now I live in Virginia, and all bets are off, I hear about them all the time now. My kids haven't gotten them yet, but with them being 6 & 4 and in school now, my time is coming! Glad he is sportin' the new do so well, sorry about the hair loss but it gives you one less thing to worry about!

acording to old garden lore if you cut your hair on the full moon it will grow back thicker and more robust than ever -

What a pain in the patooty. We had several rounds of it at the school my daughter attended when younger - but we seemed to always be spared. She is college bound this year, so I think our days of school headlice infestation potential are coming to an end. Knock on wood!

Thanks, Suzee. Since he never washes his hair, all the lore about dirty being less interesting seems off.

Heiko, what a great idea -- they're pretty bored what with the rain.

Erin, train them well. No touching heads together, no sharing hats, brushes, jackets, no heads on the floor. . . oh, yeah. Just keep an eye out. I don't remember them when I was younger either.

Mark, thanks. Maybe it will grow back proportionately.

kitsapFG, fingers are crossed from now on.

Heiko's idea is a great organic method to remove lice. That or go rent a monkey. They are really good at that. Sorry to hear.

Oh, I am sorry. I can't imagine shaving off my beautiful hair. It is truly my signature look! Thank goodness I have never had Lice!!!!

Ribbit, Your statement is so true. Lice are worse than squash beetles! But those squash beetles are definitely a close second!
