House o'Kale

Somewhere there lurk overview garden pictures, for another day, but last night there was a local gardener's meeting. I raced home afterwards to serve up the lentil soup my eldest had made (talk about wonderful; not only had she made it, but the parmesan rinds she added gave it depth and great savor). I worried a little that it wasn't enough food, but at the foot of the front stairs, guess what lurked:

Sauteed with garlic, this accidental kale made a lovely side dish.

Kale to the rescue! It really is a bit of an underdog plant. Misunderstood but so powerful.

How nice. And it looks untouched by the bugs.

I just like the phrase "accidental kale". Sounds yummy. Must teach my kids to cook--it sounds like paradise to come home to a meal cooked by the kids.

kitsapFG, I wonder if it's not one of those backbone foods. I think the Laurel's Kitchen people call it a "superfood," and I know I feel good about eating (and growing) it. Usually I plan where it is to grow. . .

Daphne, we don't have many bug problems. The amazing thing is that it was untouched by dogs or tennis balls.

Susan, yours will. Generally I have to be very specific if I want dinner made by someone else.
