Just Pay Attention

Tuesday morning started with a wander around the garden. Most mornings, if I'm really lucky, start like that. Everywhere I look, if I pay attention, interesting things peep back at me.

So from thirsty chickens to volunteer pumpkins to pernicious weeds, from galumphing nasturtiums to less-enthusiastic flowers, beans ready to harvest entwined with spontaneous Sour Gherkins, it all ended up with a large box of goods for the community food bank.

Mornings like that give me strength to face my days.

It's so nice that they will take donations like this! What a beautiful harvest to share.

I love the morning walk in the garden and I do it most mornings now that I have chickens to let out and feed. I find a few weeds to pull as I walk through and toss them in to the chickens. My garden is better weeded for it too.

Looking good. So your growing the gherkins again..us too, although I'm not sure why as they didn't hardly produce last year and I doubt they will do any better this year.

Ribbit, they're great about it. I actually got some Lacinato seeds from an organization that asks us to grow some to donate.

Emily, there's a saying that the gardener's footprints are the best fertilizer for the garden -- I think that what you're pointing out is why.

Mr. H., they were ridiculously prolific for us. And volunteering again this year! Some of the kids liked them.

Thanks, EG. It's not really that much, but it is what I've got.

I wish our local food bank would take produce. But they won't. And I love mornings in the garden. In the spring it is afternoons in the garden, but I won't go out there in the afternoon when it is in the 90s. It is way too hot.

I love to take a stroll around the garden first thing in the morning also, it is usually such a nice way to kick off the day. That really is a nice basket of goodies for the food bank.

It's so refreshing to squash without teeth marks in it. Our voles are doing us in this year. I love that you're sharing with your local bank. Our goal is donate our excess fruit once the orchard gets really going, and we hope to have some items to share this summer...if the voles stop killing our plants that is. I'm starting to wish I was gardening in the city again :(

I love early mornings in the garden. Sometimes I think the plants grow the most overnight. It looks like you have a nice productive jungle out there.

Early morning walks in my garden before I head off to do my daily battles at work - are truly what keep me sane and focussed. I love that you donate your extra to the local food bank. I am garden coordinator for our local Giving Garden - the produce of which also goes to our local food bank. The need is always great, but so much more so with this prolonged and severe recession.
