Back on the Bandwagon

Last year I just quit keeping track of what I got from the garden. It was, believe me, only a symptom of the general falling-apart I suffered. Nothing serious, thank goodness, just what it was.

This year I figured I'd keep track here. So here's the tally this far for 2011:

Eleven eggs and just shy of six pounds of uncleaned honey mushrooms. They ought to clean out to about five pounds. Pilaf for dinner!

(Let's all hope Denise doesn't email me tomorrow and say, "No!! Those arent honey mushrooms! You'll dieeeeee.")

I've got honey mushrooms already dried if you want some in case those aren't them. Ours give me...well...let's just say I'm one of the few that have a stomach that don't agree with them all that much (my husband is OK with them though but he wouldn't be heartbroken if I gave them away). If you've had them before and fine with them then these would be perfect for you.

Wow! Mushrooms...did you grow them or find them?

If you found them, you're braver than me. I only hunt 'little brown mushrooms' with my camera...actually, if I'm honest, I only hunt any mushroom with my camera, except chanterelles. They are pretty though!

Rachel, oh no!! I actually like them a lot, and we all seem to tolerate them really well. The littlest one is in fact a honey hog. I'd love yours.

Jackie, they were in the local park where we were playing the game "Squirrel! Squirrel!" with the dog. I noted them, then toted them home later.

CVS, no, these are benign simple to ID kinds of shrooms. Otherwise, I only eat what Kevin gives me. And they grow in the same places in town every single year.

That looks like a great start to 2011. Happy new year!

Hmmm! Egg omelette! I am salivating...

Eggs and mushrooms - I am with Heiko - time for a great omelette!

I am actually going to do my first attempts at raising my own mushrooms this year. Going to start out simple with the kit for a while to get a feel for what it entails before graduating to ordering my own spore/spawn and tracking down the right grow medium (perfectly composted straw/horse manure for button mushrooms). It may prove more trouble than it is worth, but I want to give it a try!

Yum yum. I really miss fresh eggs during the winter. I can't wait for spring again.

Happy New Year and let us all have a great 2011. Nice mushrooms...I can't wait until we can wander about and search for some ourselves...only 4 more months.

chaiselongue, thank you and Bonne année et bonne santé to you too!

Heiko, that's a good idea for breakfasts. . .

kitsapFG, Kevin and Denise are all about the mushrooms. Your plan sounds pretty nice.

Rachel, I will. . .busy. No light, low eggs now.

Daphne, you know you can freeze them, although it's not the same.

Mr. H., I know you guys like it there, but it's a lot of winter.
