Kale for Harvest Monday - Surprised?

Almost a pound and a half of Lacinato kale for dinner tonight. I just move through the garden, pulling off two or three leaves from each plant. That's a great method until bolting really hits. Then, if the plant isn't hopelessly bitter, pulling the whole shebang is probably best.


We introduced a couple of neighborhood kids to kale served with caramelized onions and feta cheese tonight (plus wholewheat pasta with garlic and parseley and some bakery bread donated by a neighbor, with just-picked berries for dessert). A very low-cost and high-yummy meal, and there was some left over so I think everyone got enough. There's always enough kale here!

Kale served with caramelized onions and feta cheese does sound like it would be way up there on the yummy scale...mmm.

Mr. H, I try to remember that I'm way out on the "kale-love" scale, and do something especially tasty for new eaters.

Susan, try it with goat cheese and toasted walnuts too. Yummmmmmm.

Oh yum. I've started my fall kale. It is now one inch high. It will be a while before I can harvest it. For some reason beyond me I never give kale room in the summertime. It only gets space in the spring and fall.

Mmmm sounds yummy. I'm going to try to grow kale for the first time this fall. Maybe I'll try to make some when I have my harvest.
