The promised pictures

This is how much I had done on Monday:

And here, reclining on the couch, is that plus today's effort:

After two pattern repeats, I'm by no means an easy, or comfortable, or intuitive lace knitter. I can't do it without the pattern, and as I said yesterday, I couldn't do it without those stitch markers. But I almost always have the right number of stitches when I count now, and I know how to fix a yarn over if it's only one row below. I will never, ever, forget at least one way to make a left -leaning decrease and a right-leaning one.

Also, I think there's one error in the pattern. At least when I do it my way, the count comes out properly, and not with theirs, and it's the kind of error (transposed kind of decrease) that I can oh so easily see myself making.

As I promised, here's the stitch marker proud-mama gallery:

This set is about my favorite so far.

The mouse on the right has a moveable tail.

And they each come in their own little box:

Now, if you'll excuse me, Thing 2 just came through with an old chicken-feed bag and asked if I had any string to make it into a parachute. I told here where it was, then said, "But, you do know, don't you, that it won't catch you if you jump from something like the deck?" And she gave me one of those looks. So I said, "Nothing you make will work for you. Rocks, toys, yes; you, no." She asked, "What CAN I make for me?" Even the suggestion that a real parachute needed height, airplane height, to work hasn't completely discouraged her.

I had better not knit for a little bit.

It's very pretty, I can't wait to see it finished.

Thing 1's stitch markers are lovely.

I'd made sure Thing 2 can't get to the roof!

your lace looks fabulous! I worked on mine a bit last night with stitch markers, and it helped a lot. I was out at the weaver's guild meeting and forgot my floss/lifeline, so I took my chances. The pattern doesn't show up so well on mine, I think because I'm either knitting too tightly, using too small needles, or just a bad yarn for lace. Anyway, I'm content with it as a learning project.

Stefani, I want some stitch markers from your kid. Please send as many pictures as you can stand without getting irritated at me. Unless you're already irritated that I didn't realize I want them before you JUST sent me other mail.

wow! I'm impressed with the lace! (though I still have zero desire to try it myself)

The stitch markers are ALL beautiful. (C. wanted to try, but still hasn't gotten there...she's bought the tools, but is still a bit rough)

And I love reading stories of your thing 2... I know, my M. will probably be much the same, but for now it's entertaining! :)

I think you're progressing beautifully. It's too bad you had to state your project before the Olympics, though, otherwise you might be able to get away with an alpaca laceweight hankie! Or table runner. Then you'd be absolutely cackling, you'd be so near completion.

You forgot to mention another feature of the stitch markers...they clatter when they hit the floor, so the sight-impaired old ladies (me) can find them, unlike the plastic markers which just drift silently away.

I love my Sarabeada markers.

The lace is lovely. Hope T2 survived the afternoon.
